THE TORT OF NEGLIGENCE: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE CASES IN NIGERIA.
Abstract
is longer compared to other disciplines. The scrutiny during medical training is also very intense, with students facing the possibility of repeating a level or being completely dropped if they are deemed not good enough. This is however not surprising, considering the gravity of dealing with the fragility of the human body which is considered sacred and indeed rightly so. Such responsibility warrants a higher demand for perfection and this, amongst other reasons explains why the medical profession is accorded with the highest regards and its professionals are duly respected. One can say that the level of societal expectation from the medical profession, requires every one of their members to be perfect. Unfortunately, that is humanly impossible to achieve. This however does not lower the standards or gives any room for complacency in the carrying out of their duty of catering for human lives. There are certain casualties that can be prevented without being perfect and those could be caused by acts of negligence on the part of medical professionals and this is where this long essay is centred upon.
