Abstract

ABSTRACT This study addresses the critical challenge of developing effective lighting strategies in military museums, where balancing artifact preservation and optimal exhibit visibility is essential for enhancing visitor experience. The research aims to identify appropriate lighting solutions that minimize damage to sensitive artifacts while promoting visitor engagement. Key objectives include evaluating the impact of various lighting types on visual perception, analyzing the role of natural and artificial lighting in creating an inviting atmosphere, and proposing innovative lighting designs tailored to military artifacts. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing a questionnaire distributed to a sample of 80 respondents. The data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions, as well as mean and standard deviation calculations, to gain insights into visitor perceptions and preferences regarding museum lighting. The results indicate that welldesigned lighting significantly enhances exhibit visibility and fosters a more engaging visitor experience, with a majority of respondents favoring lighting that highlights key artifacts while minimizing the risk of UV exposure and heat damage. The integration of modern technologies, such as LED systems and smart lighting, proved vital for optimizing both aesthetic appeal and conservation efforts. In conclusion, this study fills a notable gap in the literature focused on military museums by providing empirical insights and practical recommendations for curators and designers. It emphasizes the need for tailored lighting strategies that protect invaluable artifacts while enriching the overall visitor experience, ultimately fostering greater public engagement with military history and culture. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of these lighting strategies on both artifact preservation and visitor satisfaction.
