EFFECTS OF THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF ETHANOLIC LEAF EXTRACT OF GOSSYPIUM HIRSUTUM ON PHENYLHYDRAZINE-INDUCED ANEMIA IN WISTAR RATS
Abstract
This study investigated the therapeutic potential of ethanolic leaf extract of Gossypium hirsutum on phenylhydrazine (PHZ)-induced anemia in Wistar rats. Phenylhydrazine is known to induce hemolytic anemia through oxidative damage to red blood cells. Twenty adult male rats were divided into five groups (n = 4): Control, PHZ only, PHZ + low-dose extract (200 mg/kg), PHZ + high-dose extract (400 mg/kg), and PHZ + standard drug (ferrous sulfate, 4 mg). Hemolytic anemia was induced using PHZ (40 mg/kg), and treatment was administered orally for seven days. Hematological parameters were analyzed using an automated hematology analyzer, and statistical evaluation was performed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s post-hoc test (p 0.05), suggesting selective stimulation of erythropoiesis and thrombopoiesis.
