Abstract

The rapid advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed the management of academic libraries worldwide. This study examines the application of ICT in the management of academic libraries, using the University of Management and Technology, Yobe (UMYUK) as a case study. The objectives of the study were to identify ICT tools used in library management, assess the level of ICT adoption, examine its impact on library services, and identify challenges hindering effective ICT utilization. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through questionnaires administered to library staff and users. Findings revealed that ICT tools such as computers, internet services, electronic databases, and library management software are used in the library, though at a moderate level of implementation. The study also found that ICT improves information retrieval, resource sharing, and service delivery. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, poor internet connectivity, lack of technical skills, and insufficient ICT infrastructure were identified. The study recommends improved funding, staff training, and provision of adequate ICT facilities to enhance library management efficiency.
