Abstract

This research work is aimed at analyzing the Effects of Instructional Materials on Public Senior Secondary Schools Students Academic Performance in Islamic Studies in Katsina Local Government. It was conducted by the used of primary sources of data which was collected from the random samples of 80 respondents from 5 Secondary Schools in Katsina state. The study was analyzed by the use of table and Percentage. The result revealed that There is insufficient instructional materials in the schools, thus it was indicated that, the Educational Authority in Katsina Local Government had been providing adequate instructional materials to Secondary schools. However, it was discovered that students were very quick to comprehend the lesson taught using instruction materials such as computers and other teaching appliances, unlike using the manual way of teaching as used before the advancement of technology. It was also found that using instructional materials while teaching in the classroom could make teaching and learning process very easy both for teachers and students. The respondents confirmed that little training was given to them by the state/local government to enhance their teaching process. The study recommended that, The teachers should improvise the instructional materials in their schools, whenever the need arises. By so doing, the standard of students’ understanding of the lessons and performance in education in the Local Government and the entire state could be raised. Local Government Education Authority should put more efforts to provide the needed instructional materials in the secondary schools of the area in order to improve the standard of education in the local government.
