IMPACT OF ORGANOMINERAL FERTILIZER, AMF SPECIES INOCULATION AND ZINC NANOPARTICLES FORMS ON MICROBIAL BIOMASS AND RESPIRATION ON SOIL PLANTED WITH HABANERO PEPPER
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Soil microbial biomass (SMB) is the living component of soil organic matter, encompassing all
the microscopic organisms in the soil. It typically constitutes only a small fraction (1-5%) of the
total soil organic matter. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of three Arbuscular
Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) species (Glomus etunicatum, Funneliformis mosseae, and Rhizophagus
irregularis) and no AMF species inoculation, three forms of zinc nanoparticle application (soilapplied, foliar applied and no zinc nanoparticles application), and organo-mineral fertilizer (0 t/ha
and 10 t/ha) on the microbial biomass and fruit number of soil cultivated with habanero pepper.
The pot experiment was carried out at the screen-house of the College of Plant Science and
Production (COLPLANT), the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria.
The experimental design was 4 x 3 x 2 replicated three times arranged in a completely randomized
design.
