Abstract

# Abstract This study investigated the effect of conflict management on business performance, using [Access Bank Plc](https://www.accessbankplc.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com) as a case study. Conflict is an inevitable aspect of organizational life, arising from differences in goals, values, perceptions, interests, and communication patterns among employees and management. When poorly managed, conflict can negatively affect employee morale, productivity, organizational efficiency, and overall business performance. However, when properly managed, conflict can serve as a catalyst for innovation, improved decision-making, and organizational growth. The primary objective of the study was to examine the relationship between conflict management and business performance in Access Bank Plc. Specifically, the study sought to identify the major causes of conflict within the organization, evaluate the conflict management strategies adopted by management, and assess the impact of these strategies on employee productivity, operational efficiency, and organizational performance. A descriptive survey research design was employed, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to employees of the bank. The data obtained were analyzed using simple percentages and other relevant statistical tools. The findings revealed that conflicts in the workplace are mainly caused by communication breakdown, competition for limited resources, differences in individual values and goals, role ambiguity, and organizational changes. The study further found that effective conflict management practices, such as negotiation, collaboration, mediation, and open communication, significantly enhance employee commitment, teamwork, productivity, and overall organizational performance. The results also indicated that organizations that adopt proactive conflict management mechanisms experience reduced workplace tension, improved employee relations, and increased operational effectiveness. Based on the findings, the study concluded that effective conflict management is a critical factor in achieving sustainable business performance in the banking sector. The study recommends that management should establish clear communication channels, provide regular conflict management training, encourage participatory decision-making, and implement effective grievance-handling procedures to minimize workplace conflicts and improve organizational performance. **Keywords:** Conflict Management, Business Performance, Organizational Effectiveness, Employee Productivity, Workplace Conflict, Banking Sector, Access Bank Plc.
