Abstract

ABSTRACT This study titled “Multimodal Analysis of Internet Memes on #EndBadGovernance Campaign on X and Facebook” investigates how Nigerian social media users employ memes to express political dissatisfaction and resistance. Using a qualitative research design and the framework of Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis, the study examines selected memes to explore how text and visuals interact to critique governance and highlight public frustration. Findings reveal that memes address issues such as inflation, poverty, corruption, and failed leadership, using satire, symbolism, and Pidgin English to enhance impact and relatability. The study concludes that internet memes serve as significant tools for digital activism and civic engagement in Nigeria’s socio-political discourse.
