HYDROGEOPHYCAL INVESTIGATION FOR GROUND WATER POTENTIAL IN SOME SELECTIVE AREAS JEGA KEBBI STATE USING, ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY METHOD
Abstract
Hydro geophysical investigation was carried out in some selected areas of Jega, Kebbi State to delineate the potential zones of aquifer that could host the groundwater. The study area lies between the latitude 12° 13’19.8”N to 12° 13’23.8”N and longitude 4° 22’46.7”E to 4° 22’48.7”E. The data was acquired with aid resistivity meter using Schlumberger configuration. Eight (8) Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) was carried out with each total length of 70m. The data were collecting by expanding AB/2 (1 to 70m) until process yields a rapidly decreasing potential difference (MN/2), then MN/2 (0.5m to 10m) have been increased. The acquired VES data was analysed and processed using WINRESIST computer programed. The result revealed VES3, VES4, VES7, VES8 have low resistive zones ranging from 1.5 Ωm to 406.9 Ωm. The number layers for the aforementioned VES results revealed that the area consist of four (4) layers. These layers are; Ironstones, Brown Clay, Coarse Sand and Sandstone as compared with borehole log lithology of the area. The maximum depth to aquifer zones that could host the groundwater was found to be 29m to above. These areas suitable for groundwater exploration by either hand dug well or local rig borehole.
