Abstract

The essential oil composition of Calotropis procera fresh leaves was analyzed by GC/MS and some physico-chemical parameters such as colour, pH, refractive index, acid index, saponification value, iodine value and peroxide value were determined according to AFNOR methods. Ten compounds representing 100.00% of the oil were identified. The essential oil was dominated by Ether, 3-butene-1-yl propyl, Hydroperoxide, 1-methylphenyl and phenol, 3,5-bis(1,1- dimethylethyl). Qualitatively, this oil is rich in hydrocarbons 33.6%, Oxygenated compounds 44.1% and 22.3% aromatic compounds. The Antioxidants activities was evaluated using DPPH ( EC50= 293.7ug/ml) and FRAP. These findings suggest that Calotropis procera leaf essential oil as a valuable natural antioxidants resources for cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food application.
