THE ROLE OF DIAMOND FM’S COMMUNITY RADIO PROGRAMMES IN PROMOTING GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT IN IBADAN NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
Abstract
This research was carried out to examine the “The Role Of Diamond Fm’s Community Radio Programmes In Promoting Grassroots Development In Ibadan North Local Government Area ”, Purposive sampling techniques was adopted to select one hundred (100) respondents with questionnaire as instrument of data collection. After the field survey, findings revealed that Diamond FM engages residents of Ibadan North in grassroots development activities and residents of Ibadan North participate in the production and consumption of programmes aired by Diamond FM. The following recommendations were also made: it is highly recommended that Diamond FM should conduct survey in Ibadan North LGA to ascertain the most pressing needs of the people, therefore, tailors its radio programmes to meets demand of the people. Also, Diamond FM radio and other community broadcast station on rural development programmes should be adequately funded by the non-governmental organizations even government and more broadcast slots should be allocated to rural development programmes.
