GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF RABBIT FED TRIDAX MEAL AS AN ADDITIVE
Abstract
The growth performance of rabbit fed tridax meal as an additive in a basal diet was investigated.
The 16 rabbits used for the study were randomly allotted to four treatments at two rabbits per
replicate. The Tridax procumbens plant was air dried and finely grinded to form tridax meal
(TM). The TM were added to the diets at the rate of 0.5kg, 1.0kg and 1.5kg per 1kg of basal
feed for diet 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Feed and water was given to the animal ad libitum and the
experiment lasted for eight weeks. Data taken included, initial weight (IW), final weight (FW),
weekly weight gain (WWG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency
(FE). The data obtained were analysed using SPSS 2015 version and the means were separated
for significance using the Duncan multiple range test at probability level of 0.05. The IW and
FW did not show any significance (P>0.05) difference between the diets, likewise the WWG.
The FI, FCR and FE showed significance (P
