Abstract

The aim of this research work “Statistical Analysis on Oil Exploration and Spillage in the Niger Delta” was to investigate the rate of oil spillage and the quantity that spills at different occasion. The population of the study is the Niger Delta Area while Ogoni land that is characterized with so many oil wells has been taken as the sample. The study relied on secondary data that covers a period of 12years from 2011 to 2022. Time Series Analysis is the statistical tool that was used to analyze the data where the trend line show that the rate of oil spillage is on the increase while the quantity that spills at different occasion is on the decreased. Oil spillage in the Niger Delta has been occurring as a result of pipeline vandalization and incompetence and carelessness on the part of the oil. The government should set up agencies that will be in charge of this monitoring. The government should also be commended in that now, they are tackling the problem with the UNEP in collaboration with the UN in taking steps towards finding a permanent solution or remediation to the problem facing Ogoni-land.
