Abstract

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the production of a manual horizontal loom with accessories, designed to support small-scale weaving activities and skill acquisition in textile craftsmanship. The loom was constructed using locally available materials, including wood, nails, bolts, and metal rods, to create a functional and durable weaving structure. Accessories such as heddles, shuttle, beater, and warp beam were also produced to complement the loom and enable smooth weaving operations. The project demonstrates how simple engineering principles and craftsmanship can be combined to produce an efficient, low-cost weaving tool suitable for educational and domestic use. The construction process involved measuring and cutting the wooden frame, assembling the horizontal structure, installing tension controls, and attaching all necessary weaving accessories. Emphasis was placed on accuracy, stability, and ease of operation to ensure that the loom performs effectively. The manual horizontal loom produced in this project provides stable tension, allows even shedding, and supports continuous weaving of small to medium-sized fabrics. The finished loom proves to be functional, portable, economical, and suitable for teaching traditional weaving skills. It offers students an opportunity to understand loom mechanics and encourages creativity in textile production. The project concludes that locally made looms can significantly reduce the cost of textile training tools and promote self-reliance in craft production.
