Abstract
This study examined the effect of manpower planning on organizational productivity using Yammfy Farm, Ilemona, Kwara State, as a case study. The study was motivated by the growing need for organizations, particularly agricultural enterprises, to effectively plan and manage their human resources in order to achieve optimal productivity and sustainable growth. Effective manpower planning enables organizations to forecast workforce requirements, identify skill gaps, ensure adequate staffing, and improve employee performance, thereby enhancing overall organizational productivity.
The specific objectives of the study were to assess the influence of workforce forecasting, recruitment and selection practices, employee training and development, and staff deployment on organizational productivity. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Data were collected from employees and management staff of Yammfy Farm through the use of structured questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency tables, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation.
The findings revealed that effective manpower planning significantly contributes to organizational productivity by ensuring the availability of qualified personnel, reducing labor shortages, improving employee efficiency, and enhancing operational effectiveness. The study also found that regular training and development programs improve employees’ skills and competencies, leading to increased productivity. Furthermore, proper recruitment and placement of employees were identified as critical factors in achieving organizational goals and maintaining high performance levels.
The study concluded that manpower planning is a vital component of organizational success and productivity. Organizations that invest in systematic workforce planning are more likely to achieve efficient resource utilization, improved employee performance, and sustained competitive advantage. The study therefore recommended that Yammfy Farm and similar organizations should strengthen their manpower planning processes, conduct periodic workforce assessments, provide continuous employee training, and align human resource strategies with organizational objectives to enhance productivity and long-term performance.
