EVALUATION OF MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF BOREHOLE WATER IN SOME WARDS OF TARAUNI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KANO STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study was aimed at evaluating the physico-chemical parameters, heavy metals and bacterial counts of five boreholes randomly selected from five wards of Tarauni local government, Kano State, from January to March, 2024. Standard methods were used to determine the values of pH, temperature, conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BODs). Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Lead and Zinc were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Total aerobic mesophilic bacterial and total coliform counts were conducted using standard techniques. The results revealed temperature range of 33.4°C to 33.8°C. Majority of the borehole water samples were below the standard pl levels (
