DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A 2KVA SINGLE PHASE STEPDOWN TRANSFORMER WITH VARIABLE OUTPUTS REGULATOR AND DIGITAL VOLTMETER
Abstract
This seminar research presents a study and execution of the Design and construction of a 2kva
single phase stepdown transformer with variable outputs regulator and digital voltmeter.
Variable transformers are transformers that can provide differing levels of voltage to a load,
from an input power source. Variable transformers are oftentimes controlled with a dial, which
allows them to be utilized as lighting dimmers and in other applications where precise control
over the amount of voltage that a load receives is desired. Other applications of variable
transformers include temperature control, control lighting, and laboratory equipment testing for
overvoltage and under-voltage conditions and also test the characteristics of different
equipments at various voltage levels. A Variable Transformer consists of a copper winding on a
core of laminated steel. A carbon brush, connected to an output terminal, is rotated over the
length of the windings to tap off voltage at any turn from zero volts to the maximum output
voltage of the winding. Also an ammeter and voltmeter will be connected at the output of the
transformer to help measure the amount of current and voltage level being supplied to the load,
and vary the value of voltage if need be. The steps for designing and constructing a 2kva single
phase transformer shall be uncovered.
