EFFECT OF FRESH SWEET POTATO ( IPOMOEA BATATA ) LEAVES SUPPLEMENTATION ON HEMATOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF WEANER RABBITS ( ORYTOLAGUS CUNICULUS )
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to compare the effects of fresh sweet Potatoe leave supplementation on
the Haematological and biochemical parameters of weaner rabbits. A total of 12 weaner rabbits were Purchased, initial average weight recorded and were randomly assigned to 4 treatments in Groups of 3 rabbits each. Rabbits that were fed pelleted commercial feed were assigned to
Treatment 1 (T) and served as a control group while those that were fed the sweet potato Inclusion group (T2 T3 and T4) were considered the Treatment group. Data obtained were pack cell volume (PCV),Hemoglobin (HB), Red blood cell, white blood cell (WBC), Neutrophils (N), lymphocytes (L), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), Alkaline phosphate (ALP) Albumin (ALB)Total protein(TP) . There was significant (p>0.05) difference where the leaves improved hematological and biochemical indices, enhanced protein metabolism, and supported erythropoiesis without adverse health effects. The study recommends sweet potato leave supplementation for rabbits based on outcome shown in this study
