THE EFFECT OF RECYCLDE PLASTIC AS AGGREGATE IN CONCRETE PRODUCTION
Abstract
Abstract
The increasing global demand for sustainable construction materials has prompted research
into the use of recycled plastics as aggregates in concrete production. This study investigates
the effects of incorporating recycled plastic aggregates (RPA) on the mechanical, physical,
and durability properties of concrete. Various proportions of RPA were substituted for
conventional aggregates, and the resulting concrete mixes were evaluated for compressive
strength and density. The findings indicate that while higher RPA content may reduce
compressive strength and density, optimized mix designs can achieve acceptable performance
for non-structural applications. Additionally, the use of RPA contributes to environmental
sustainability by reducing plastic waste and conserving natural resources. This research
highlights the potential of recycled plastics as a viable alternative aggregate, offering insights
into sustainable concrete production practices and their implications for the construction
industry
