Abstract

ABSTRACT This research focuses on the design and development of a Campus Security Reporting System (CSRS) for the Federal College of Agricultural and Produce Technology (FCAPT), Kano State. The study was necessitated by the critical deficiencies of the existing manual reporting system, which suffered from severe reporting delays, data loss, and inadequate trend analysis capabilities, significantly hindering effective incident response. Employing the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology within a Design and Implementation Research (D&IR) paradigm, the CSRS was conceptualized as a web-based, 3-Tier application comprising the Incident Reporting Module, Automated Alert Engine, and Administrator/Analytics Dashboard, utilizing PHP, MySQL, and a mobile-responsive interface. Rigorous testing, including the Alert Latency Test, validated the system’s performance, demonstrating an alert delivery time of under 3 seconds. Consequently, the Null Hypothesis (\text{H}_0) was rejected, confirming that the CSRS will significantly improve incident reporting accuracy and response time at FCAPT. The CSRS offers a proactive, data-driven framework for security management, and recommendations include immediate pilot deployment, mandatory user training, and future integration with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) for a complete smart campus security ecosystem.
