Abstract

The increasing complexity of human resource operations in modern organizations necessitates the development of robust digital systems to ensure efficiency, transparency, and scalability. This project presents the design and implementation of a computer-based Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS), aimed at automating core HR functions such as employee record management, leave processing, departmental approvals, and payroll oversight. Adopting the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM), the study follows a systematic approach that includes problem identification, system modeling, algorithm development, and prototype evaluation. The system architecture is structured in a three-tier model encompassing a responsive client interface, a logic-driven application layer, and a secure data repository. Key features include role-based access control, automated workflow routing, real-time status tracking, and audit trail generation. Development follows an enhanced Waterfall model integrated with Agile feedback loops to accommodate iterative refinements. Data for system requirements were gathered through stakeholder interviews and surveys across diverse organizations, ensuring a user-centered design. The resulting HRMIS addresses limitations of existing manual processes, reduces processing delays, and enhances data accuracy and accessibility. This study contributes a scalable and adaptable solution for institutional HR automation, offering a significant step toward digital transformation in organizational human capital management.
