Abstract

ABSTRACT A study was conducted to evaluate the haematological parameters of four strains of Nigerian Guinea fowl reared in Kano State. A total of twelve (12) birds were randomly selected at reproductive stage, which comprises of ten (3) birds from each of the four varieties of Nigerian local Guinea fowl were used. The blood samples collected were taken to Pathological Laboratory of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State for haematological analysis. Data generated from haematological traits was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using General Linear Model Procedure of SAS. Significant differences among means observed will be separated using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test Procedure. The study on haematological parameter showed that red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), packed cell volume (PCV), haemoglobin counts (Hb), lymphocytes and mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) have no significant (P>0.05) difference across the strains. While the mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell haemoglobin (MCH) and platelets showed significant (P
