EFFECTS OF HISTAMINE ON ACIDITY OF GASTRIC JUICE IN WISTAR RATS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The investigation of the effect of Nitric oxide on acidity of gastric acid. This was with a view to understand the activities of Nitric Oxide Synthase (Molsidomine) on the acidity of gastric acid in the stomach.
25 rats were obtained from the Animal holding facility in Babcock University Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. The rats were weighed, kept in plastic cages, and were given feed and water ad libitum. 24 hours before the collection of gastric juice, the rats were fasted. On the morning of the experiment, the rats were weighed again. The amount of Ketamine (50mg/ml) was calculated for each rat and administered. The gastric juice was collected using a surgical procedure. All the treatments were administered 30 minutes before administering the anesthesia. The abdominal cavity of the rat was opened, the stomach was exposed and perfused with normal saline at a rate that 10ml of gastric content is collected every 15 minutes. The gastric acid collected from the rat was titrated against 0.0025M NaOH. Titer values were recorded. (Dai, et al 1972)
The results showed that the Histamine only group had significantly higher acidity (p
