COUNSELLING PARENTS WITH CHILDREN WITH BEHAVIORAL DISORDER IN FAGGE LOCAL GOVERNMENT KANO STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This quantitative research project investigates the impact of counselling interventions for parents of children exhibiting behavioural disorders in Fagge Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria. The study focuses on a population of 206 participants. The research employs a survey design to assess the effectiveness of counselling programs. Parents and individuals were given questionnaires to gather data on demographics, the prevalence of behavioural disorders in their children, their current knowledge and understanding of these disorders, existing parenting styles and disciplinary practices, and details about any counselling interventions they have participated in.
The data collected was analyzed using quantitative methods. Descriptive statistics was used to understand the characteristics of the sample and the prevalence of behavioural disorders among children. Frequency analysis was examined how often certain parenting practices and knowledge levels occur within the group. Going by the nature of the counselling program, inferential statistics may be used to assess the relationships between parental participation in counselling and changes in their knowledge, attitudes, and management strategies for their children’s behavioural issues.
This research aims to achieve several outcomes. Firstly, it determines how widespread behavioural disorders are among children in Fagge Local Government. Secondly, it evaluates the effectiveness of counselling programs in equipping parents with the tools they need to manage their children’s behavioural problems. Finally, the study identifies factors that may influence the success of counselling interventions within this specific population size.
The findings from this research can be used to inform the development and implementation of targeted counselling programs for parents of children with behavioural disorders in Kano State and similar contexts. Additionally, the research provides valuable insights for policymakers and mental health professionals working to improve child behavioural health outcomes within a defined population.
