Abstract

This study examined the effect of visual learning strategy on academic performance among Biology students of senior secondary schools in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State. The study was conducted to determine whether visual learning strategies enhance students' understanding and achievement in Biology compared to conventional teaching methods. A quasi-experimental research design involving pre-test and post-test control groups was adopted. The population comprised all senior secondary school Biology students in Ungogo Local Government Area. A sample of 200 students was selected using simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a Biology Achievement Test (BAT), which was validated by experts in Biology Education and Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was established at 0.84 using the test-retest method. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics. The findings revealed that students exposed to visual learning strategies performed significantly better than those taught using conventional methods. The study concluded that visual learning strategy positively influences students' academic performance in Biology. It was therefore recommended that Biology teachers adopt visual learning strategies to enhance students' learning outcomes.
