Abstract

This study investigated the impact of internet usage on the academic performance of Senior Secondary School Two (SSS2) students in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was adopted, with a sample of 200 respondents randomly selected from a population of 6,542 students and teachers. Data were gathered using a research designed questionnaire titled "Impact of Internet Usage Questionnaire (IIUQ)." Analysis of the data, using statistical frequencies and mean scores, revealed a significant impact of internet usage frequency on students' academic engagement and achievement. However, students displayed limited understanding of using the internet for academic purposes. The study concluded that while internet usage is high among SSS2 students, its potential for enhancing academic performance is constrained by inadequate understanding and barriers to effective usage.
