Abstract

Abstract This study investigated the impact of parenthood on senior secondary school students’ academic performance in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The study aimed to determine how parental responsibilities affect students’ attendance, concentration, study time, and overall academic achievement. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. Data were collected from selected senior secondary school students through questionnaires and interviews. The findings revealed that parenthood among students significantly affects their academic performance due to increased responsibilities, financial constraints, stress, and reduced study time. The study further found that student parents often experience difficulties balancing educational and family obligations, resulting in poor attendance and lower academic achievement. The study recommends counseling services, educational support programs, and community awareness campaigns to assist student parents in achieving academic success.
