IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG EDUCATION BIOLOGY STUDENTS OF NWU
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies in modern education, influencing teaching, learning, assessment, and research activities. This study investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the academic performance of Education Biology students at Northwest University Kano (NWU). A descriptive survey research design was adopted involving 200 students selected through simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages. Findings revealed that AI tools significantly enhance students' learning experiences by improving access to educational resources, supporting research activities, facilitating personalized learning, and increasing academic productivity. However, excessive dependence on AI tools may negatively affect critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning skills. The study concludes that AI has a positive influence on students' academic performance when used appropriately. It recommends integrating AI literacy into educational programs while promoting ethical and responsible use of AI technologies among students.
