AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN PHYSICS LABORATORY AT NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY, KANO
Abstract
This study investigated the availability and utilization of instructional materials in the Physics Laboratory at Northwest University, Kano. The effectiveness of physics education largely depends on the availability and proper use of instructional materials that facilitate practical learning and enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to students and laboratory staff. Findings revealed that while some instructional materials were available, many essential laboratory equipment and teaching aids were insufficient or outdated. The study further showed that the utilization of available materials positively influenced students' academic performance and practical skills acquisition. Challenges identified included inadequate funding, poor maintenance culture, and limited access to laboratory resources. The study recommends increased funding, regular maintenance, and provision of modern instructional materials to improve the quality of physics education at Northwest University, Kano.
