Abstract

ABSTRACT This project report is on the design and fabrication of a tyre changing machine, specifically aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of tyre-changing operations in automotive workshops. The primary objective of the project is to develop a cost-effective, durable, and user-friendly machine capable of handling a wide variety of tyre sizes, particularly for passenger and light truck vehicles. The tyre changer integrates both mechanical and pneumatic systems, allowing for the efficient mounting, demounting, and inflation of tyres with minimal physical effort from the operator. The design phase involved careful analysis of existing tyre changing machines, with the goal of identifying improvements in terms of safety, operational efficiency, and durability. Key components include a motorized turntable, pneumatic bead breaker, mounting and demounting arms, and a user-friendly control interface. Materials such as high-strength steel and aluminum were selected for structural durability, while safety features such as an emergency stop switch, guarding, and pressure regulators were integrated to ensure operator safety during use. Fabrication of the machine components was carried out using standard manufacturing processes, including welding, cutting, and machining. The machine was then assembled, and its performance evaluated through a series of operational and durability tests. Results showed that the machine was able to handle various tyre sizes efficiently, performing complete tyre changes in under five minutes. Durability testing demonstrated that the machine could withstand continuous use without significant wear or failure. This project successfully addresses the needs of small and medium-sized workshops by providing a reliable, safe, and efficient tool for tyre-changing operations.
