Abstract

This study examined the incidence of juvenile delinquency among secondary school biology students in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State. Juvenile delinquency has become a major concern in educational institutions due to its negative effects on students' academic achievement, social development, and overall well-being. The study aimed to identify the prevalence, causes, and effects of juvenile delinquency among biology students. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. Data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to selected secondary school biology students. The findings revealed that truancy, drug abuse, examination malpractice, fighting, and vandalism were common forms of delinquent behavior among students. Factors such as peer influence, poor parental supervision, poverty, and exposure to negative media content were identified as major causes. The study concluded that juvenile delinquency adversely affects students' academic performance and school discipline. Recommendations were made for parents, teachers, school administrators, and government agencies to collaborate in reducing delinquent behaviors among students.
