DETERMINATION OF VITAMIN AND ANTINUTRIENT CONTENTS OF COTTON WOOL (GOSYPIUMHERBACEUM) LEAF
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Cotton wool(Gosypiumherbaceum) leaves are gaining recognition as a valuable source of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds. This study aimed to assess the nutritional composition of cotton wool leaves by determining the levels of vitamins and antinutrients. The results revealed significant amounts of vitamins A, C, and E in cotton wool leaves, indicating their potential as a rich source of these essential micronutrients. Vitamin A, known for its role in vision and immune function, was particularly noteworthy. Conversely, antinutrient analysis demonstrated the presence of oxalates, phytates, and tannins, which, while offering potential health benefits, may also interfere with the absorption of certain minerals.Understanding the nutritional profile of cotton wool leaves is crucial for promoting their utilization as a dietary supplement and addressing malnutrition issues, especially in regions where cotton wools are a staple food. Furthermore, this study provides valuable insights into optimizing the consumption of cotton wool leaves to maximize nutritional benefits while minimizing the impact of antinutrients
