Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was based on the Influence of merger and acquisition on the performance of listed Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria. The study adopted correlational design and documented annual report of the banks concerned for the relevant period (2003 – 2004 pre and 2022 – 2023 post merger) were collected and analyzed using parameters such as ratio, student-t-test analysis. The result of the analysis reveals that merger and acquisition significantly influenced banking performance in Nigeria. The study recommends that to generate more profits the banks need a good regulatory environment that would enable them expand their scope of business but strictly within the financial service industry. With a good regulation and supervision, corporate governance will be enhanced, unnecessary cost and expenses will be cut down and profit will increase.
