Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology on Human Resources
Management (HRM) practices at Olabisi Onabanjo University, aiming to understand the
integration, effects, and challenges of AI within HR functions. As AI technology increasingly
becomes a part of organizational operations, it is crucial to assess its influence on key HRM areas
such as recruitment, training, and compensation management. This research employs a mixedmethods approach, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather
comprehensive data on the adoption and impact of AI in HRM practices.
The study reveals that AI has been widely adopted in various HR functions, with significant
improvements noted in the efficiency of HR processes and decision-making capabilities. AI
technologies, including chatbots and predictive analytics, have enhanced the recruitment process
by streamlining resume screening and improving candidate experience. However, the study also
uncovers diverse attitudes towards AI's role in compensation and training, highlighting a need for
further investigation into these areas.
Challenges associated with AI implementation include concerns about biases and the need for
human oversight to ensure ethical applications. The findings emphasize the importance of
balancing technological advancements with human judgment to address potential ethical issues.
Additionally, the study explores the future prospects of AI in HRM, including its potential impact
on the role of human HR professionals.
The results contribute to the growing body of knowledge on AI in HRM by offering insights into
its practical applications, benefits, and limitations within the university setting. The research
viii
underscores the necessity for ongoing adaptation and evaluation of AI technologies to maximize
their benefits while mitigating challenges. This study also suggests avenues for future research,
including longitudinal studies to track the long-term effects of AI adoption and cross-cultural
studies to explore AI’s impact in diverse organizational contexts.
