Abstract

This study explores the impact of cloud accounting on organizational outcomes, with a central focus on human capital development and corporate governance. In today’s digital economy, cloud-based technologies are transforming accounting practices and reshaping how organizations manage both their workforce and governance structures. To achieve the study’s objectives, three hypotheses were developed and tested using quantitative research methods. The population for the study comprises chartered accountants in Ogun State and decision-makers in accounting firms who have adopted cloud-based accounting technologies. Data were collected across organizations in different sectors, while the analysis employed descriptive statistics, inferential techniques, and regression modeling to evaluate the extent to which technology adoption and cloud accounting influence organizational performance. The findings reveal that technology adoption has a significant positive effect on both human capital development and corporate governance. Specifically, organizations with higher levels of technological integration recorded improvements in employee skills, knowledge, and professional capacity, demonstrating the role of cloud accounting in advancing workforce development. Similarly, stronger governance mechanisms were observed in firms adopting advanced technologies, highlighting the potential of digital tools in strengthening accountability and oversight. In addition, cloud accounting adoption showed a significant positive relationship with governance practices, suggesting that cloud-based systems not only enhance transparency but also improve organizational control processes. This study contributes to the growing body of literature by providing empirical evidence on the strategic importance of cloud accounting in improving organizational effectiveness. It emphasizes the need for organizations to prioritize technology adoption as part of their long-term strategy to build human capital and enhance governance. The implications of the study are relevant to accounting professionals, organizational leaders, policymakers, and researchers seeking to understand how digital transformation in accounting drives human capital development and sustainable organizational performance.
