Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of an IoT-based environmental monitoring system utilizing the ESP32 microcontroller as the central processing and communication unit. The objectives of the work were to design a multi-parameter monitoring device, to provide real-time data visualization both locally and remotely, to implement threshold-based alert mechanisms, and to ensure energy-efficient and reliable operation suitable for outdoor or industrial applications. To achieve these objectives, the system integrated sensors for temperature, humidity, air quality, light intensity, and rainfall, supported by modules such as an LCD display, a buzzer, a 12V battery with power management circuitry, and cloud connectivity via ThingSpeak. A structured design process was employed, including block diagrams, circuit diagrams, and algorithm development to establish the system workflow. The prototype was implemented by programming the ESP32 to process sensor inputs, trigger alerts when thresholds were exceeded, and transmit readings wirelessly to the cloud platform while displaying them locally. Testing confirmed that the system successfully met the stated objectives. It accurately monitored environmental parameters in real time, displayed them on the LCD, and transmitted them to the cloud for remote access. The buzzer provided immediate alerts for threshold violations, while the power system maintained continuous operation without data loss. The results demonstrated that the system was reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient. With its ability to support remote monitoring and local alerting, the system showed strong potential for deployment in smart agriculture, weather observation, and urban environmental management.
