Abstract

Products of higher plant origin have been known to be effective sources of chemotherapeutic agents without any underlying effects. Plants continue to be a major source of medicines, as they have been throughout human history. The research main Aim to evaluate the phyto-chemical profiles and molluscidal and schistosomicidal activity of aqueous and ethanolic extract of Carica papaya. Snails were Identified and subjected to carcarial test. Phytochemical analysis of Carica papaya (papaya) extracts revealed a rich presence of various bioactive compounds in both aqueous and methanolic extracts. At the lowest concentration of 30ml, only one snail died within the first 24 hours. However, as exposure continued, the number of deaths increased, with four snails dead at 48 hours, eight dead at 72 hours, and a total of nine out of 15 snails dead by the end of 96 hours. The study on the mortality of snails exposed to varying concentrations of methanol and aqueous extracts further underscores the potential use of Carica papaya as a natural molluscicidal control agent. Research should explore the potential of using these extracts as environmentally friendly molluscicides.
