Abstract

ABSTRACT This Study has three main objectives; To isolate and identify bacteria from diesel contaminated soil; To screen and isolate bacteria for biosurfactant production; To evaluate different concentration of carbon sources on biosurfactant production. The viable aerobic heterotrophic bacterial counts are presented in table 4.1. the highest count of 3.58 x 106 was observed at site TB. While the lowest count was observed 1.7 x 106 at site CA. The morphological and biochemical characteristic of the isolates was presented in table 4.2. Only one bacterial genus was identified from the soil sample. A total of three (3) bacterial isolates were identified. The three (3) bacterial isolates were all Bacillus subtilis. Table 4.2. All the isolate was gram-positive rod-shaped bacteria. They were also positive for biochemical testing including; catalase, citrate, and oxidase test, and negative for methyl red and indole test. The gram stain and biochemical test are presented in table 4.2.
