TEACHERS AND STUDENTS PERCEPTION FOR THE INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING AND LEARNING BIOLOGY IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS LOCATED IN DALA L.G.A
Abstract
This study examined teachers’ and students’ perceptions of the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning of Biology in secondary schools located in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. The study aimed to determine the level of ICT usage in Biology instruction, identify the perceived benefits of ICT integration, and examine the challenges affecting its effective implementation. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected from selected teachers and students using structured questionnaires. The findings revealed that both teachers and students generally have positive perceptions toward the use of ICT in Biology education, as it enhances students’ understanding, increases classroom participation, improves access to learning resources, and makes lessons more interesting and interactive. However, the study also identified several challenges, including inadequate ICT facilities, irregular power supply, limited internet access, insufficient training for teachers, and lack of technical support. The study concluded that effective integration of ICT can significantly improve the teaching and learning of Biology in secondary schools when adequate resources and support are provided. It recommended increased government funding for ICT infrastructure, regular teacher training, improved electricity supply, and provision of internet facilities in schools to enhance ICT-based Biology education.
