Abstract

This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory efficacy of ethanolic Mangifera indica (mango) leaf extract in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic male Wistar rats. Fresh leaves were collected in Offa, Nigeria, authenticated, air-dried, pulverized, and extracted via Soxhlet using 80% ethanol. The crude extract, standardized by GCMS for mangiferin (Kazeem et al., 2013), was administered orally at 150 mg/kg/day for 21 days. Twenty rats were randomized into four groups (n=5): normal control, diabetic control, metformin (150 mg/kg), and individual extracts (150 mg/kg each). Diabetes was induced with STZ (60 mg/kg i.p.); hyperglycemia (>200 mg/dL) confirmed inclusion. Serum IL-6 and TNF-α were quantified by ELISA post-sacrifice. Results showed significant elevation of both cytokines in diabetic controls (Pd.
