Abstract

Baobab (Adansonia digitata) is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional medicine due to its nutritional and therapeutic properties. This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of baobab leaf extract. Fresh baobab leaves were collected, dried, pulverized, and extracted using ethanol. Standard phytochemical screening methods were employed to detect the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenols, glycosides, and terpenoids. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The results revealed the presence of several bioactive compounds, particularly flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and saponins. The extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity in a concentration-dependent manner. These findings suggest that baobab leaf extract possesses potent antioxidant properties and may serve as a valuable source of natural antioxidants for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food applications.
