Abstract

ABSTRACT The research work titled “Design and Construction of Modularized Visitor Counter” focused on the design of an electronic intelligent digital device which can count up to 9,999 digits in its area of application. The device is targeted to monitor human traffic in a pedestrian area (offices, halls and laboratories) where monitoring of people (visitors) is needed. The principle of operation of the device is based on an electronic component (Light Dependent Resistor) which is used a sensor. The sensor stays steadily focused to the light intensity, any object that passes in-between the sensor and the light causes obstruction to the sensor which in-turn fall the resistance of the sensor allowing current to flow. The sensor will signal to the counter and 7-segment driver integrated circuit (CD4026B) which will increment its output digits every time the resistance of the sensor falls. The sensor can be installed at any one way traffic route to determine number peoples passing-by a particular way. It is installed fit in for any orientation position (i.e. vertical or horizontal, up or down) as long as the sensor faces light and the passage way is in-between the sensor and the light source. The device is recommended for lecture rooms, cinema centers, factories, filling stations or any area of specialization where counting or monitoring of number of event is paramount.
