DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLATION AND TESTING OF A 6.2KVA HYBRID PHOTOVOLTIC SYSTEM FOR CENTRAL EXAMINATION OFFICE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project presents the Design and installation of a 6.2kVA Photovoltaic inverter system to power the school of engineering exams office in the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi. The project was carried out to address the problem of erratic power supply that has crippled major activities in the exam’s office and the Polytechnic as a whole over the years. The PV inverter system comprises different component PV modules, charge controller, inverter, battery bank, and combiner box, all working to transform the sun’s energy into usable electrical power. This system was designed to supplement power from the mains and from the backup AC generator the institution relied solely on. The battery bank was designed to be charged with power from the PV modules without the mains power supply or a standby power generator and the design is able to automatically switch the supply to the school of engineering exams office between the mains and the inverter. At the end of design, installation and testing, all the measured outputs reflected the desired results as indicated in the design specifications. Practical experience in the design, analysis and installation of components of the photovoltaic power system, as well as their installation was gained.
