IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG EDUCATION BIOLOGY STUDENTS OF NWU
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the academic performance of Education Biology students at NWU. The increasing integration of AI-based tools in education has transformed learning processes, making education more interactive, personalized, and accessible. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to Biology education students. Findings revealed that AI tools such as intelligent tutoring systems, virtual simulations, and AI-powered study assistants significantly enhance students’ understanding of biological concepts, improve academic performance, and increase engagement. However, challenges such as over-dependence on AI, lack of proper guidance, and limited digital literacy were also identified. The study concludes that AI has a positive impact on academic performance when properly utilized and recommends proper integration and monitoring of AI tools in academic environments.
