UTILIZATION OF NSU CLAY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUSE CARRIER ELECTRICAL INSULATOR
Abstract
Abstract
Varying composition of kaolin, NSU clay, feldspar, quartz and tale was used to
produce different sample of fuse insulators to investigate their resulting
properties and sub stability for mass production and commercial viability. The
basic raw material was separately prepared using a 100 mesh sieve. The mixture
was formulated to produce porcelain sample by using sodium silicate as
deflocculated, while the slip casting process was used in the production of the
5
fuse electrical insulator. The produced samples were fired by means of bisque
and glaze firing techniques respectively Sample A gave the best result with total
linear shrinkage of 6.84%, apparent porosity of 1.32%, water absorption of
0.93%, bulk density of 1.43g/cm3 and cold crushing strength of 37.65Mpa’. The
investigation had shown that high quality electrical fuse insulator could be
achieved from locally sourced material.
