Abstract

The research determined the Optimum Tilt Angle of Solar Collectors using Generalised Klein and Theilacker (KT) Method for Abuja Nigeria () as case of the study. The monthly average global solar radiation obtained from 2020-2024 National Aeronautics Space Agency (NASA) ranges from. 14.6 to 21.3 MJ/m2-day with lower values mostly in rainy season due to cloud cover which prove the location suitable for solar energy applications. The monthly global solar radiation from to indicate that the values differ significantly based on the various tilts as compared to that of horizontal surface (i.e. ) from which the optimum orientation from Sep-Dec-Jan-Mar is Southward direction; while from Apr – Aug the optimum orientation happened to be Northward direction which is roughly seen to be a reflection of declination angle. When the system is to be fixed permanently, the optimum orientation is (which is equivalent to the above the latitude of the location). Semi-annual adjustment of collectors from Mar- Aug, the optimum orientation , which is equivalent to less than the latitude of the location and the radiation obtained at the optimum orientation is which is also above that at horizontal surface () of ; while the optimum orientation from Sep- Dec- Jan- Feb is which is equivalent to greater than the latitude of the location and the radiation obtained at the optimum orientation is which is also above that at horizontal surface of .
