ROAD TRANSPORT PLANNING USING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
Abstract
The lack of effective database to store records of passengers, long queues experience by both the staff and passengers at the transport terminal during booking, undue arguments between the staff and the commuters (passengers) at the counter of the transport terminal, omission of passengers name on the manifest are some of the challenges that has necessitated the design of the new system which when implemented would will help to reduce the amount of argument and complaint pouring into their head offices by passengers, help the transport company to generate more revenue as a result of high patronage from commuters, users of the system will experience great relief and convenience when using new system, the system will enhance the quick search and retrieval of records and it will contain the complete and error free manifest of all passengers. The methods of data collection used were fact finding, interview and observation. Object Oriented Analysis design Methodology (OOADM) which gave clearer and direct pattern of solving existing problems and implementing the result were used as the software engineering methodology while Visual Basic was used as the programming language for coding of the modules of the design. Program Flowchart, System Flowchart and Data Flow Diagram were the design tools.
