EFFECT OF FERTILIZER TREATMENTS ON YIELD OF COWPEA (RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN)
Abstract
This research work is based on effect of fertilizer treatments on yield of cowpea. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of fertilizer on the yield of variety of cowpea; the data for this research work is secondary data. The data was collected from center for dryland agriculture (CDA) Bayero University Kano was used in the analysis. Cowpea, an important legume in tropical agriculture, requires adequate soil nutrients for optimal yield. The research aims to evaluate the impact of varying fertilizer levels five fertilizer treatments 0t/ha, 15t/ha, 30t/ha, 45t/ha, and N120P60K60, on cowpea productivity. Employing a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and analyzing the data through a two-way ANOVA, at a 5% level of significance using the Minitab statistical software, the study assesses the statistical significance of fertilizer effects on yield. The results revealed a significant difference among treatments, with N120P60K60 producing the highest yield, indicating its superior nutrient balance for cowpea growth. Additional chi-square and multiple comparison tests confirmed the consistency and reliability of the findings. The study concludes that optimal fertilizer application significantly enhances cowpea productivity, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices and improved food security. It recommends adopting N120P60K60 fertilizer for maximizing yield in similar agro-ecological conditions.
