ASSESSMENT OF THE CHALLENGES OF OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT PROFESSION IN THE MODERN TECHNOLOGICAL ERA (A SURVEY STUDY OF NUHU BAMALLI POLYTECHNIC ZARIA

ABSTRACT The advancement of modern technology in recent years have affected to a large extent the functions and performance of the Office Technology and Management profession. Among the changes that happened in the advent of the 21st century, technological advancements have the most significant impact on the work environment. Like any other changes, update in technology brings both opportunities and challenges. Consequently, there arose the needs for development of improved devices for the purpose of increasing productivity levels, to make work less tedious. This study is therefore geared towards assessing out the challenges of Office Technology and Management Profession in the modern Technological Era in Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria. Questionnaires was administered on sixty nine secretaries from various department of Nuhu Bammalli Polytechnic Zaria. And Data for this research was analyzed using test Statistic Of Mean and Standard Deviation. Findings of the study reveals: that computer, internet and intranet, voice recognition and video-conferencing, voice mail, electronic calendar groupware and decision support systems, multimedia system are modern office technologies used in offices. And this transform office work in an organization, it also led a great change in the role of Office Technologists in office occupation, and increase the work performance of Office Technologists by making work more flexible. It was recommended among others the need for better management style and strategies to address the issues of workload, the management should support Office Technologists to receive training and help them grow their career, also the Office Technologists should be encourage for self-training habit.
