PATRIACHAL DOMINANCE AND OBJECTIFICATION OF A WOMAN IN MAHASWETA DEVI'S BREAST GIVER AND NAWAL EL SAADAWI'S WOMAN AT POINT ZERO.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines patriachal dominance and objectification of woman in Mahasweta Devi's Breast Giver and Nawal El Saadawi's Woman at Point Zero. The method of data analysis is selected section by section and the primary source of data is Mahasweta Devi's Breast Giver and Nawal El Saadawi's Woman at Point Zero. The secondary source of data are articles related to patriarchy and objectification. Using the radical feminist theory, the study highlights the issues women suffer in patriachal societies. The research showcases men as the perpetrators of women's oppression. The study also examines the type of oppression women face in their respective cultures. Both Devi and Saadawi portray a lot in their respective texts. While Jashoda is portrayed in a society where she cannot challenge patriachal norms, Firdaus is portrayed in a society where she challenges patriarchy and resist oppression. This study concludes that patriachal oppression cannot be eradicated if women do not resist or fight oppression.
